Magnetizing Battlefleet Gothic Imperial Cruisers
So I got some Battlefleet Gothic ships in the post today, and didn't waste any time trying to get a few knocked together. Many of them are metal models that don't allow for a lot of customization, but the Cruisers are made of plastic and purpose-built for modification. I had no idea what variant of cruiser I wanted to try out first, so I went on the hunt for a solution. It was simple really... magnets! They were the answer!
First up, I drilled two holes straight through the cruiser, using a 3/16" drill bit. This hole was a little bit small, but some careful filing and application of some plastic glue softened up the edges enough to pop a thin circular magnet in.
After that, you have to enable the bays to adhere magnetically. I acheived this by affixing a staple with its ends cut off with a bit of greenstuff.
Now mix and match! Want a Tyrant? Throw on two macrocannon bays on each side. Want a Luna Class? Throw on a lance battery with a macrocannon battery. Magnets make the most use out of your kit.

I have a fever that can only be cured by...more magnets. Seriously my friends accuse me of magnetizing everything but I never thought of this. Good job. Now where are my old chaos cruisers...
ReplyDeleteVery clever... it's just a shame that most of my Imperial Fleet is already painted, could have saved myself a few pennies years back!
