Side project: Basilisk Scratchbuild

I started a side project while I had the templates out: a Basilisk artillery piece. For the record, hot glue sucks! It is very hard to maintain control of. I'll have to fill in the gaps with putty or greenstuff and smoothe it out.

Also, I recolored my ghillie snipers to match my intended paint scheme.

Making the Malcador, part 1

Today I started scratchbuilding something that wasn't initially on my list: a Malcador heavy tank for use with my Death Korps. Also, I decided that the Pig Iron heads I had on hand add more of a German look, so instead of using those I will be ordering the winter headgear equipped heads instead. Check out this link:

So I'll be posting updates on my heavy tank as I go along.

Until next time,

Titan Redux

For those of you who haven't seen it yet, I had to rebuild my scratch-built titan from the ground up (literally). I was trying to paint cardstock with acrylic paints thinned with water, and needless to say, that caused the structural integrity of the legs to be compromised. So, I set about reprinting the templates, and I discovered a treasure-trove of scratchbuilding plastic: old DVD cases! Yes, these old cases have a decently-sized front cover of thick plastic, and it is kind of like recycling! +Bonus points for going green! Save money on plasticard and find yourself used dvd cases.

So here is my Warhound Lucius Pattern Titan, MK2. The arms still need redesigned, but the rest of it is sturdy now. This isn't necessarily a finished project, but a decent foundation to build upon in the future. For now, I have more scratch-build projects to get started on. Stay tuned for those.

Until next time,

WIP Tyranid Cruiser

I've been putting it off for too long, so here is a WIP shot of the Tyranid Cruiser design I have been fiddling with. The nice thing about tyranids is their mutability, which allows me more freedom to get creative in their scratchbuilds.

This cruiser utilizes the "Massive Claws" biomorph that turns the vessel into a vicious pitbull: once it locks it will not let go. This ship's looks kind of remind me of a lobster, though. I imagine that I will only be more justified in thinking so, once I apply the paint scheme of my Hive Fleet to it.

I just got my flying stands in the mail yesterday, so look for more scratchbuilds on the way soon.

Until next time,

Tyranid Kraken Escort Size Comparison

I've been hard at work on the hive fleet, and I have set down an STC for building Kraken escort ships out of bits. Here they are in their initial stage of production:

Now I got some questions about the size of it... some people were thinking it might be better used as a cruiser. It is about half as long as a Chaos cruiser, so I didn't think so. Pictures are better at describing it though, so you can be the judge! Here is an STC Kraken next to a Chaos Styx Cruiser

I've got more BFG goodies on the way, so keep checking back!
Until next time,

I don't play apocalypse, yet I am building a Warhound????

As the title says, I don't have an apocalypse rulebook, but over on Ron's "From the Warp", I saw some templates available for download on building your own Titan: Warhound variant. I have no idea how one would field a Titan, or the recommended payload, but I have always been fascinated with people's scratch builds of them and wanted to attempt one myself. The Warhound was the smaller of the two, and appeared simpler. A perfect model for my first try!

I printed the templates out on some heavy-duty cardstock (120 lb.), and have been putting it together with a combination of masking tape and hot glue. So far, all I have done is a foot, and I am 2 hours into it. Oh well, at least my cost is cheap so far (approx. 38 cents). More to come, so stay tuned!
