Sons of Baal: Death Company Test Scheme

I've never gotten around to painting my Death Company marines, despite having them for about a year. I finally got around to painting up a test, as well as trying out a new technique: painting the eyes as gems.

Some things are the same, such as the grungy look as if they have been wading through soot, and the over-abundance of gold. I did not want the typical all-black death company, as that seems a bit much to me. I can understand painting the shoulder pieces, and putting an X over them, but to totally repaint the armor just before a battle seemed a bit weird.

Well... whaddya think? How does this scheme fit in with the rest of my Successor chapter?

Until next time,

Painting my Death Company: Speed Style

As you may know, I have been neglecting my Death Company marines for quite a while. Well, the other day I decided I had just plain had enough. So, speed painting time!

Base coat of gloss black from a non-GW paint, followed by gold trim and bone-white shoulder pads made for some of the fastest painting I have done in a while. They are not even nearly complete yet, but this is what I have so far. I suppose I need to spend less time blogging and more time painting, eh?

Death Company

So, the 2 squads came in the mail from ebay. My arm bits had already came in the post, so I was ready to put some together. My Blood Angels Death Company is coming together...

I am beginning to sense a change...

Still licking my wounds from the competition, I contemplated where to go next. I bought two assault squad boxes before leaving the store hosting the competition, as a start. Upon reflection, I decided that Blood Angels were worth looking into. I downloaded the Codex for free from GW's website, and found that the codex had been updated for 5th edition, much to my pleasure.

Upon reading the codex, I found that Blood Angels had a unit named Death Company Marines. With rending CC attacks, Feel No Pain, Furious Charge, they seemed like a decent way to plug up the gap my force was having in assaults. But I didn't have any DC models, or a chaplain to reign them in! Well, now was as good a time as any to get some.

I went on ebay, and discovered that DC are expensive! Thus, I purchased a lot of 2 tactical squads and a command squad that had been owned by some kid. I then bought some bits from a supplier on ebay. Ok, not just some, A LOT. I used chainsword and bolt pistol arms, along with the torsos, heads, and legs of the tactical squad marines I got, to make some DC.

I got a Mephiston and a Chaplain, so I waited eagerly for them to arrive.

It was official, I was going Blood Angel. Obviously my force would have to be a successor chapter if I didn't want to paint all my units again. But I now had direction, which is what I was missing. I was going to be a MEQ!
