I don't play apocalypse, yet I am building a Warhound????

As the title says, I don't have an apocalypse rulebook, but over on Ron's "From the Warp", I saw some templates available for download on building your own Titan: Warhound variant. I have no idea how one would field a Titan, or the recommended payload, but I have always been fascinated with people's scratch builds of them and wanted to attempt one myself. The Warhound was the smaller of the two, and appeared simpler. A perfect model for my first try!

I printed the templates out on some heavy-duty cardstock (120 lb.), and have been putting it together with a combination of masking tape and hot glue. So far, all I have done is a foot, and I am 2 hours into it. Oh well, at least my cost is cheap so far (approx. 38 cents). More to come, so stay tuned!

  1. Hi FoxPhoenix135,
Titans are so cool looking and so teasing, sooner or later, most of us will give it a try :) And who needs them to play? They look so sexy, it's probably better to have them for the looks than the play *grin*
On the other hand, reading the tourney experiences at the BOLS, those Titans really rock.
On a more serious note, since you're building with cardstock...I have read on several occasions, that at the begining everything was sturdy, but as more and more weight was added, the legs and hip (or better the joints) became weak. I read this now on several build and was tinkering, that if I ever get to build a Titan, that I may even start with the head (or at least the torso) and work my way down. This way ensuring, the hips and legs can hold the weight.
    Just food for thought.
So, good luck with your Warhound - I'll keep an eye on the progress.
    Cheers
    Klaus

  3. I do play Apoc and am very interested. As what Klaus said about the weight. It might make sense to use the heaviest cardstock on the bottom them lighter for the upper part.
I will watch your progress closely. While it seems like slow going I would expect a similar speed using the FW resin when you include all the work getting the parts ready.

  4. Weapon load out, If your going to try to kill super heaver double turbo destroyers, four twin linked shots of strength D weaponry usuall kill any super heavy or make it think twice.
Vulcan Hvy bolter is an infantry killer Plasma Blast Gun is A marine killer, in droves.

Inferno cannon.......I don't want my warhound close to anything that can assault it with a powerfist.

Warhounds are a nice build the legs are a little difficult to get right but in the end these plans are really great.

I have two Scratch Built that I am Going to run with the Reaver I am planning on starting in the next couple of weeks.

  5. Barjack has a good take on the weapon loadout. I usually run one Turbo Laser Destroyer and a Vulcan Mega Bolter. There are plenty of Titan targets for the strength D gun when I play and I love rolling hand-fulls of dice for the Mega Bolter.

My Warhound is about 75% completed as far as the structure goes. I still need to detail it. I've got about 60 hours on it so far but that's with plasticard and not paper. A local guy built one out of paper in ~25 hours.
